Bellingham Neighborhoods

The city of Bellingham is located in the Northwest corner of Washington State. Bellingham's formation, as a city, is  very unique and intersting. There are 23 neighborhoods or districts within Bellingham and many of these have their own Neighborhood Association. A list of Bellingham neighborhoods has been provided below. There are links to each neighborhood's web-site (if on-line) along with statistical information on Bellingham Real Estate and Bellingham homes for sale mentioned for each neighborhood. 

Alabama Hill Neighborhood hilltop location provides panoramic views of the city and Bellingham Bay to the west or awesome territorial views of Lake Whatcom to the east. Alabama Hill is well established neighborhood with a wide range of styles and ages of homes in this area but the majority of the homes are 1960's and 1970's vintage homes. Homes throughout the area have access to Whatcom Falls Park at the south end of the Alabama Hill neighborhood and Big Rock Park to the east. The homes for sale in this area start at $239,000 and go to $540,000 with an average of $372,439. As of Sept 2009, there are currently nine (9) homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood. 

Birchwood Neighborhood has the unique quality of having a high percentage of 1/2 acre to one acre lots within the city limits and is a friendly and family oriented neighborhood. You'll have plently of room not only for outdoor family and child entertainment but space for the flower or vegetable garden as well.   The minimum price for homes in this area is $210,000 with the average being $269,438 and a maximum of $399,000 as of the fourth quarter of 2009. Currently, September 2009, there are 13 homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood. 

Columbia Neighborhood is quite and made up of many charater homes that come with all the charm. This neighborhood is one of the older neighborhoods in Bellingham and the Columbia district has a strong sense of communtiy. It's difficult to drive through the area and not see Columbia residents out talking with each other. Being a relatively flat section of town, Columbia is bike friendly. Along the southwest end of Columbia lies Eldrige Avenue overlooking Bellingham Bay and many of Bellingham's Historic homes can be found along Eldridge and within a block or two.  The homes in this area range from $197,000 to $579,000 and have an average price of $330,642. There are currently twelve homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood (as of Sept 2009).

Cordata/Guide Meridian Neighborhood this neighborhood expands North and West and hosts large retail chains such as Bellis Fair Mall, Best Buy, Petco, Wal-Mart and Costco to name a few. In addition, to having extensive retail accomodations, the Cordata/Guide Meridian neighborhood not only has single-family homes but multi-family and senior living available. The minimum price for a homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood is $205,000 with an average of $259,640 and a maximum of $289,900 as of the fourth quarter for 2009. 

Cornwall Neighborhood is very well known and consists largely of single-family homes. At the heart of this neighborhood is Cornwal Park that hosts a large playground, a variety of trails, tennis courts, picnic areas, ball fields, etc all in wooded surroundings. The park is very well known and is centrally located within Bellingham. In the fourth quarter of 2009, homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood range from $249,900 to $349,000 with an avergage price of $283,200.

Geneva Neighborhood is located east of Whatcom Falls Park and is along the Southern edge of Lake Whatcom. This neighborhood is family oriented with 90 plus percent single-family homes on larger lots. Prices on homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood range from $229,000 to $4,200,000 with an average of $624,584 and a median price of $459,900 as of the fourth quarter of 2009.

Downtown Bellingham (Central Business District) this area is really thriving and has so much to offer anyone. Not only does the area support of number of Urban dwellings but is also the home to many local businesses and shops. On the weekend, you will find our local farmer's market. There are plans and project underway to convert the old GP site into a sprawling and upscale waterfront.

Edgemoor Neighborhood  is a much sought after neighborhood. In this area with you will find upscale homes with well maintained properties and parks. The Edgemoor Neighborhood/district sits just south of Fairhaven. Edgemoor is one of Bellingham's most sought after and prestigious areas, sloping up from the shores of Puget Sound a high percentage of the homes in Edgemoor have unobstructed saltwater views. Unlike many view and waterfront areas where the lots and narrow and deep to allow more homes/properties to be built, Edgemoor is full of large 1/2 acre +/- lots that are wide and allow for larger rambler/ranch style homes. Many of homes in Edgemoor have large waterview windows all along the entire west facing side of the home. As of Sept 2009, the starting price of  homes for sale in Edgemoor is $409,999 to $2,950,000 with an average of  $943,556. The median price for an Edgemoor home is $744,500. 

Fairhaven Neighborhood is located on the southern end of Bellingham and shares one of its boarders with Bellingham Bay. The downtown area of Fairhaven is bustling with activity and commerce with many local shops, restaurants, tradesmen and hosts its very own farmer’s market. This is also the resting spot & host for the last leg of the famous Ski-to-Sea race each year in May. This neighborhood is a mixture of urban living, multi-family and single family homes. As of the fourth quarter of 2009, homes in this Bellingham neighborhood range from $189,919 to $825,000 with an average of $503,960 and a median price of $549,000. $825,000. There are currently seven (7) homes for sale in the Fairhaven district of Bellingham.

Happy Valley Neighborhood is a melting pot of of diversity. Here you'll find college students, multi-family and single-family homes in addition having access to South Bellingham; Fairhaven, Edgemoor, Chuckanut and Bellingham Bay. In this Bellignham neighborhood, you also have good access to Western Washington University, Lake Padden and easy access to Interstate 5 - north or south. The minimum price for a home for sale in this Bellingham nieghborhood is $215,000 with an average $290,001 and a median of $279,700 with a maximum of $385,605.  

King Mountain Neighborhood

Lettered Streets Neighborhood is family oriented, and friendly! The homes in this Bellingham neighborhood were built in the early 1900’s to 1950’s. You will find some lots with newer homes and some multi-family units but 90% are single-family. The reason the neighborhood is called the “Lettered Streets” is because all its streets are named with letters! There is minimal commercial and mostly residential in this neighborhood. The minimum price for homes for sale in this Bellinghan neighborhood is $235,000 with an average of $309,100 and a median of $305,000 with a  maximum of $379,000.

Mount Baker Neighborhood  could be said to be one of the fastest expanding areas of Bellingham. It has so much to offer and you may not have to leave this neighborhood for anything! Here you will not only find single and multi family living but shopping centers, grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, banking and much, much more. Many homes in Barkley Village offer breathtaking views of the city and Bellingham Bay. The minimum for a home in this area is $395,000 with an average of $642,333 and a median of $562,000 with a maximum of $1,250,000 as of the fourth quarter 2009. 

Pudget Neighborhood is along the Lakeway corridor and joins up with the Geneva Neighborhood. There are single and multi family homes available. Here you will finds shops, restaurants, grocery stores, schools and other local businesses very close by. You are just a short jaunt to Lake Whatcom from this Bellingham neighborhood. The homes in the area start at $179,000 with an average of $426,270 and a median of $404,450 with a maximum of $789,000.

Roosevelt Neighborhood is diverse with single-family homes, multi-family and large multi-family complexes in adddition to some commercial and local businesses. On the Northern edge of the neighborhood, you have homes  with views of Bellingham and Bellingham Bay. The Bellingham homes for sale in this neighborhood range from $189,900 to $340,000 with an average of $251,940 and a median price of $239,900.

Samish Neighborhood is situated on the southeast corner of Bellingham. Here you will find a hilly wooded neighborhood and wonderful Lake Padden and Golf Course. There are single family homes in this Bellingham Neighborhood as well as multi-family homes. This neighborhood and the Sehome neighborhood are ideal for anyone working or attending Western Washington University. The minimum price for this Bellingham Neighborhood is $179,999 with an average of $450,337 and a median of $409,000 with a maximum of $989,000 as of the fourth quarter of 2009. 

Sehome Neighborhood shares it's neighborhood Western Washington University and hosts an Arboretum in a beautiful location. Currently (Sept 2009) there are four homes on the market in this neighborhood starting at $199,900 and with an average price of $314,975 with a maximum range of $485,000.  

Silver Beach Neighborhood a cute neighborhood which is just inside the city limits of Bellingham and rest along the western edge of Lake Whatcom. The homes in this neighborhood start at a minimum of $269,000 with an average price of $705,522 and a median price of $544,900 with a maximum of $2,795,000.

South Neighborhood  located in the southern end of Bellingham, this neighborhood consist mainly of single family homes but does have some multi-family. The minimum home price is $229,500 with an average of $505,056 and a  median price of $385,000 and a maximum price of $929,000 as of the fourth quarter 2009. 

South Hill Neighborhood many of the homes in this Bellingham neighborbood have views of Bellingham Bay.  

Sunnyland Neighborhood  is largely a single-family residential community and is centrally located within the City of Bellingham. It shares it’s boarders with the Lettered Streets and Cornwall Park neighborhoods and Roosevelt being just across the breath of I-5. There is some commercial shopping and local business in this Bellingham neighborhood. Most homes have the character of a 1920’s bungalow but mixed in here and there you will find homes from the early 1900’s.  The homes in this Bellingham neighborhood start at a minimum of $139,900 with an average price of $256,100 and a median of $247,900 with a maximum price of $379,900 as of fourth quarter 2009. 

Whatcom Falls Neighborhood is not only its own neighborhood consisting of single and multi-family homes but this Bellingham neighborhood also hosts Whatcom Falls Park with biking & hiking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds but also has a waterfall all within the city limits! The minimum price on homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood is $264,900 with an average of $370,633 and a median price of $357,500 with a maximum of $474,500.

York Neighborhood this Bellingham neighborhood was established in the late 1800’s and hosts most of Bellinghams character and Victorian homes that were built from 1890 and 1920. This neighborhood consists of mostly of single-family homes. The minimum price for homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood is $195,000 with an average of  $245,271 and a median price of $219,000 and a maximum of $370,000 as of the fourth quarter of 2009.
