Bellingham NeighborhoodsThe city of Bellingham is located in the Northwest corner of Washington State. Bellingham's formation, as a city, is very unique and intersting. There are 23 neighborhoods or districts within Bellingham and many of these have their own Neighborhood Association. These Neighborhood Associations are not homeowner's associations with dues and CC&R's. They are simply associations that interface with the City of Bellingham on issues that affect the quality of life in each neighborhood. As a group all of these neighborhoods form up the Association of Bellingham Neighborhoods (ABN). ABN and most of the individual neighborhood associations have monthly meetings that are open to the public. A list of Bellingham neighborhoods has been provided below. There are links to each neighborhood's web-site (if on-line) along with statistical information on Bellingham Real Estate and Bellingham homes for sale mentioned for each neighborhood. Alabama Hill Neighborhood hilltop location provides panoramic views of the city and Bellingham Bay to the west or awesome territorial views of Lake Whatcom to the east. Alabama Hill is well established neighborhood with a wide range of styles and ages of homes in this area but the majority of the homes are 1960's and 1970's vintage homes. Homes throughout the area have access to Whatcom Falls Park at the south end of the Alabama Hill neighborhood and Big Rock Park to the east. The Bellingham homes for sale in this neighborhood start at $257,500 and go to $510,000 with an average of $361,371 and a median price of $325,000. As of early Oct 2011, there are currently 12 homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood. Birchwood Neighborhood has the unique quality of having a high percentage of half acre to one acre lots within the city limits and is a very family friendly neighborhood. You'll have plently of room not only for outdoor entertainment but space for the flower or vegetable gardens as well. For those that enjoy relatively flat topography for easy walking and biking, Birchwood maybe a good Bellingham Neighborhood to consider. The minimum price for homes in this area is $139,900 with the average being $256,115 and a maximum of $549,900 as of early Oct 2011. The median price is $229,900. Currently, there are only 13 homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood. Columbia Neighborhood is quiet and primarily made up of many character homes from the late 1800's to 1940's and 50's . This neighborhood is the second oldest neighborhood in Bellingham and the Columbia district has a strong sense of community. It's difficult to drive through the area and not see Columbia residents out talking with each other. Unlike most Bellingham Neighborhoods, Columbia is a relatively flat section of town which makes it a great area to walk and bike. Along the southwest end of Columbia lies Eldrige Avenue overlooking Bellingham Bay and many of Bellingham's Historic homes can be found along Eldridge and within a block or two. The homes in this area range from $175,000 to $525,000 and have an average price of $300,929. The median list price is $272,450. There are currently 14 homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood (as of early Oct 2011). Cordata/Guide Meridian Neighborhood this neighborhood expands North and West and hosts large retail chains such as Bellis Fair Mall, Best Buy, Petco, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Costco to name a few. In addition, to having extensive retail accommodations, the Cordata/Guide Meridian neighborhood not only has single-family homes but multi-family and senior living available. Several nice condo complexes in the area as well. Most of the homes in this are are newer homes and this area is one of the few areas in Bellingham where new construction is occurring at this time. The minimum price for a homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood is $235,000 with an average of $287,370; a median price of $262,500 and a maximum of $450,000. As of early Oct 2011 there are 10 homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood. Cornwall Park Neighborhood is very well known and consists largely of single-family homes. At the heart of this neighborhood is Cornwall Park that hosts a large playground, a variety of trails, tennis courts, picnic areas, ball fields, etc all in wooded surroundings. The park is very well known and is centrally located within Bellingham city limits. Homes in Cornwall Park very in age from the early to mid 1900's. This Bellingham neighborhood has the character of an established neighborhood and has great access to I-5 as well as Bellingham's Bellis Fair Mall. As of early Oct 2011, homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood range from $145,000 to $635,000 with an average price of $323,639 and a median price of $325,000. Currently there are 9 homes for sale in this Bellingham Neighborhood. Geneva Neighborhood is actually outside of the city limits just east of Whatcom Falls Park and is along the South-Western edge of Lake Whatcom. There are some lakefront homes in this neighborhood. This neighborhood consist of 90 plus percent single-family homes on larger lots. This area is more wooded and hilly than some of the other parts of Bellingham. Prices on homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood range from $335,000 to $3,200,000 with an average of $811,590 and a median price of $609,400 as of the end of Jan 2011. Currently there are 20 homes for sale in this Bellingham Neighborhood. Downtown Bellingham (Central Business District) this area is really thriving and has so much to offer anyone. Not only does the area support a number of Urban dwellings but is also the home to many local businesses and shops. On the weekend, you will find our local farmer's market. Obviously as this is a downtown area there are few if any single family homes in this district, however there are a number of downtown Bellingham condominiums. Many of the buildings have some form of commercial use on the ground floor with residential condos on the upper floors. There are plans and project underway to convert the old GP site into a sprawling and upscale waterfront. Edgemoore Neighborhood is a much sought after neighborhood. In this area with you will find upscale homes with well maintained properties and parks. The Edgemoor Neighborhood/district sits just south of Fairhaven. Edgemoore is one of Bellingham's most sought after and prestigious areas, sloping up from the shores of Puget Sound a high percentage of the homes in Edgemoore have unobstructed saltwater views. Unlike many view and waterfront areas where the lots and narrow and deep to allow more homes/properties to be built, Edgemoore is full of large 1/2 acre +/- lots that are wide and allow for larger rambler/ranch style homes. Many of homes in Edgemoore have large waterview windows all along the entire west facing side of the home. As of Oct 2011, the starting price of homes for sale in Edgemoore is $450,000 and go up to $1,750,000 with an average of $978,927. The median price for an Edgemoore home is $800,000. Currently there are 15 homes for sale in Edgemoore. Fairhaven Neighborhood is located on the southern end of Happy Valley Neighborhood is a melting pot of of diversity. Here you'll find college students, multi-family and single-family homes in addition having access to Western Washington University, South Bellingham; Fairhaven, Edgemoor, Chuckanut and Bellingham Bay. In this Bellignham neighborhood your also have the interurban trail leading to the waterfront and down Chuckanut - great for hiking or biking. The minimum price for a home for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood is $128,000 with an average $295,011 a median of $309,900 and a maximum of $429,900. As of Oct 2011 there were 9 homes for sale in the Happy Valley Neighborhood. King Mountain Neighborhood lies northeast of downtown and out near the Cordata and Bellis Fair Mall area but east of the Guide Meridian. As a result of a recent annexation into the City of Bellingham, there is some new construction going on in this Bellingham Neighborhood. As one goes up the hillside there are some homes with great city, Puget Sound and mountian views. However, most of the new homes are at the foot of the hill near Bakerview and are not "view" homes. As of the middle of June 2011, there are 6 homes for sale in this Bellingham Neighborhood. The low price is $229,900 and the high is $4,500,000 (development property). The median price is $699,950. These numbers are a little misleading at the moment as three of the six currently listed properties are high end. This area extends out into the county a little ways and some of these high end properties have development potential those the high prices on the homes with land in this up coming neighborhood. It is actually a mid price range area. Lettered Streets Neighborhood is family oriented, and friendly! The homes in this Mount Baker Neighborhood could be said to be one of the fastest expanding areas of Puget Neighborhood is along the Lakeway corridor and joins up with the Geneva Neighborhood. Puget is a somewhat hilly neighborhood with the pros and cons coincident there with. Many homes in this neighborhood have beautiful city and salt water views. There are single and multi family homes available. Here you will finds shops, restaurants, grocery stores, schools and other local businesses very close by. You are just a short jaunt to Whatcom Falls Park & Roosevelt Neighborhood is diverse with single-family homes, multi-family and large multi-family complexes in adddition to some commercial and local businesses. A walking trail connecting the downtown area to Whatcom Falls park runs through the middle of Roosevelt. This centrally located Bellingham neighborhood has great access to all parts of Bellingham and the freeway. The Bellingham homes for sale in this neighborhood range from $142,547 to $369,000 with an average of $228,419 and a median price of $219,000 as of late Oct, 2011. Currently there are 18 homes for sale in the Roosevelt Neighborhood. Samish Neighborhood is situated on the southeast corner of Sehome Neighborhood shares it's neighborhood Western Washington University and hosts an Arboretum in a beautiful location. While Bellingham has several pockets of historical homes in various parts of town, Sehome hosts the cities only official Historical District. The neighborhood sits on the side of a hill sloping towards the north and many homes have views of downtown and Puget Sound. The are consists mainly of single family homes and a few condominiums. These are a mixture of owner occupied homes and college rentals. This are has great access to both downtown and Western Washington University (WWU). Currently (Oct 2011) there are 6 homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood starting at $160,000 an average price of $289,133 and a maximum of $350,000. Silver Beach Neighborhood a cute neighborhood which is just inside the city limits of South Neighborhood located in the southern end of South Hill Neighborhood this Bellingham neighborhood is within walking distance of Fairhaven. It is an older well established neighborhood with many large saltwater view homes. Also there are many historical homes such as Wardner's Castle. Homes for sale in this Bellingham neighborhood range from $220,000 to $999,950. The average price on South Hill is $586,400 and the median price is $595,000. As of late Oct 2011 there are 15 homes for sale in the South Hill Neighborhood of Bellingham. Sunnyland Neighborhood is largely a single-family residential community and is centrally located within the City of Whatcom Falls Neighborhood is not only its own neighborhood consisting of single and multi-family homes but this York Neighborhood this
